Charlotte Edey, The Spirit Almanac, 2019

A new year can offer a fresh start; a chance to be reborn. As many of us consider what 2020 will bring, we might well look to the stars for some kind of guidance. In recent years celestial readings, astrological studies and any form of horoscope-related advice have seen a massive upturn, as we search for new ways to navigate the world, and try to blame all of our problems on Mercury Retrograde.

Artist Charlotte Edey takes inspiration from the astral plane when creating her mysterious, out-of-this world scenes, which speak to surrealism as much as they do the comforting realms of female-dominated spaces. In this image, her figure’s head is literally full of stars. It is just one of the images that adorns The Spirit Almanac: A Modern Guide to Ancient Self-Care.
