Clémentine Schneidermann and Charlotte James, Demi, Bryn Farm, 2018

Photographer Clémentine Schneidermann and stylist Charlotte James, who both live in Wales, have collaborated since 2015 on projects that span documentary, performance, social commentary, landscape photography and, of course, fashion. Their shared series, titled It’s Called Ffasiwn, explores the overlaps between these disciplines. The pair have hosted fashion-themed workshops for young people, and it is these children who appear in various outfits in the photographic series, which has just opened as a new exhibition at the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol. As Schneidermann explained in an interview with Elephant last year, “There’s no separation between fiction and reality. Dressing up is becoming a running theme in my work. I’m not thinking about it but I’m naturally drawn to these characters, people and imagery. It’s very unconscious.”
