Looking for a weekend exhibition? We recommend Stephen Friedman Gallery’s latest show, From Near and Far: Collage and Figuration in the Contemporary Age, which highlights the work of female artists pushing the boundaries of what can be done with collage. The show was co-curated by Katy Hessel and Texan artist Deborah Roberts, known for her own compelling assemblages (such as this one), depicting what Stephen Friedman terms “the complexity of Black subjecthood” and harnessing the medium to challenge notions of ideal beauty.
