James Rosenquist, White Bread, 1964

Rise and shine! This tempting slice of bread, coated in thick, bright yellow butter, is by legendary American pop artist, James Rosenquist, from his new show at Acquavella Galleries in New York, which opens to the public on Thursday. “I’m interested in contemporary vision…” the late artist said, “the flicker of chrome, reflections, rapid associations, quick flashes of light. Bing-bang! I don’t do anecdotes. I accumulate experiences.” The show brings together works from the 1960s to the 80s.
