Kana Tanaka, Daydreaming Bubble, 1998

Japan-born, San Francisco-based artist Kana Tanaka is besotted by light and, in particular, its interaction with glass—her chosen medium. Tanaka uses glass to exaggerate, amplify, distort and divide, fascinated by its potential for visual drama. She began by making small-scale artworks, like this mouth-blown “daydreaming bubble”—the ultimate vessel for midweek escapism—and has since moved onto dazzling site-specific installation works.
