Kiluanji Kia Henda, Follow in the Days of a Dark Safari #8, 2017

If you’re reading this from the Northern Hemisphere, you may be cursing the seemingly never-ending winter. Over in South Africa, it’s the height of summer, and there’s even more reason to celebrate in Cape Town, as Investec Art Fair is happening this month. Goodman Gallery are one of the key galleries at the fair, bringing an impressive line-up of their reliably punchy roster of artists, including William Kentridge, Shirin Neshat, Yinka Shonibare and Kiluanji Kia Henda. “Since parallel lines only meet at infinity, so do colonialism and populism meet in neo-colonialism. Both forge artificial images of nature, the hiding place of the state’s violence,” said the artist, at the time of her 2017 show Follow in the Days of a Dark Safari.
