Laurence Rasti, Untitled (from the series There are No Homosexuals in Iran), 2014

Happy Valentine’s Day! This beautiful picture was taken by Iranian-Swiss photographer Laurence Rasti, whose work examines notions of identity and beauty. It forms part of her 2014 series There are No Homosexuals in Iran, and also features in Nathalie Herschdorder’s 2019 art book Body—now newly available in paperback. Body includes myriad depictions of the human form by a wide variety of artists , all of which “invite the viewer to question how and why the body is represented in photography”, writes Emily Steer, “and to consider the vast impact that photographic images have on our understanding of the subject itself”.
