Livia Marin, Nomad Patterns, 2012

A Sunday spillage by London-based Chilean artist Livia Marin, who, according to her website, “employs everyday objects to enquire how we relate to material objects in an era dominated by standardisation and global circulation”. This spellbinding sculpture forms part of Nomad Patterns, a series of ceramic bowls, cups and tea pots that magically appear to be melting. Each bares a Willow Pattern motif, a riff on Chinese landscape decoration dreamed up by an Englishman in the 1790s.
