The book is a detailed monograph that examines the intertwined lives of Vanel and two other “influential artists and dancers of the 20th-century avant-garde”, Loïs Hutton and Margaret Morris, writes Philomena Epps in an archive feature for Elephant. In it, Epps finds that “dance was one of the few areas during that period where women could develop their art without any dependence on men,” and reveals how these visionary female artists did just that.
