Michał Budny, Nous, Acte II, 2018

Tomorrow the Grand Palais in Paris opens its doors to the public for FIAC, one last time before the fair moves temporarily to a new location. Pictured here is Polish artist Michał Budny’s takeover of Galerie Nächst St. Stephan, Rosemarie Schwarzwälder‘s booth—being set up below the vast glass ceiling of the Palais, which has become a recognizable feature of FIAC. This work is a continuation of his Nous I, which “featured bright white elements that could be read as a whole from above” and was a “call for people to come together instead of competing against each other”. His new installation imagines looking at Earth from the moon and seeing it shrouded in darkness. The colour black was chosen for its “many different temperatures and for the atmosphere of distance and concentration it produces”.
