Monster Chetwynd Marvin Gaye Chetwynd Bat Opera

Monster Chetwynd, Bat Opera, 2013

International Bat Night is here! Part of a weekend celebrated in more than thirty countries around the world, it aims to bring awareness to the lives of bats and their needs. One artist who has been repping the bat for over a decade is Monster Chetwynd (formerly Marvin Gaye Chetwynd), whose Bat Opera sees her diverge from the wild, brash performances that she’s mostly known for, focusing her attention instead on delicate paintings of bats. “They pollinate at night, they have radar, they are mammals with wings and, of course, they have the stigma of evil. They are perfect as unworthy subject matter,” the artist previously told Elephant.
