P Bucalossi, Tabby Polka, 1865

Cats were cool way before Instagram came along—as proved in a soon-to-open show at the British Library in London, which focuses on the history of cats on the page. Expect children’s classics, such as Mog, Winnie and Wilbur and TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, as well as many lit felines from the nineteenth century. This trio of troublesome looking moggies were created by Louis Wain for British-Italian light music composer P Bucalossi’s Tabby Polka.
