Penny Slinger, Penny As Shakti, 1976

Continuing its 2019 run of exhibitions by women artists, Richard Saltoun Gallery in London opens a show of work by Penny Slinger this week. The “feminist surrealist” combines the mysticism of surrealism with the politics of feminism, often using her own body within the work. “Opening to coincide with Mayfair Art Weekend 2019, the exhibition at Richard Saltoun—her first with the gallery—celebrates the artist’s interest and development of Tantric art, featuring collages from the mid-1970s, Xerox body prints, vintage and new photographs created especially for the show,” says the gallery.
