Picasso, Swimming Pool for Antonio “El Bailarín”, 1961

If you could own a swimming pool personalized by any artist, who would you choose? That wasn’t a decision that Antonio “El Bailarin” had to make. The Spanish Flamenco dancer was close friends with Pablo Picasso, who would regularly visit him at his luxurious seaside villa in El Martinete, near Marbella. During one such stay, in 1961, the lauded artist decided to decorate El Bailarin’s pool, conjuring up a dancer in typically free-flowing lines, along with a scrawled dedication to his fortunate pal.
