Rafal Zajko, Amber Chamber II (Resurgence) (detail), 2021

For the Spring/Summer 2022 edition of Elephant, we asked five artists to sketch out visions for coming armageddons, and the steps needed to survive them. Inspired by his passion for sci-fi, Polish artist Rafal Zajko imagined a future without bees, where humans must pollinate in their place. “Science fiction offers that sense of otherness, the imagination of new cultures, new belief systems, and new ways of living,” he explains. “Gay and queer people like me can connect with that. I believe that queerness is at the core of sci-fi.” Discover all the artists’ responses, along with illustrations by Viktor Hachmang bringing their visions to life, in Elephant 46, available from Elephant Kiosk now.
