Kickstarting a new week with this wonderful portrait by photographer and architect, Ruben Natal-San Miguel. The work features in Claire Oliver’s current exhibition, Love Letters For Harlem, showcasing images by four Harlem-based photographers, taken in and around the New York district, with proceeds going to Harlem Community Relief Fund. “Natal-San Miguel’s portraits incorporate the city’s hard lines and architecture to frame his subjects,” notes Ravi Ghosh in his piece on the show for Elephant. In this instance, “a drab garage door allows the sitter to emerge from the plane, [foregrounding] her gold nails and jewellery” to striking effect.
