Material Art Fair opens today, alongside Zona Maco, two major events in the international art calendar in Mexico City. At Material, the younger, more experimental of the two fairs, you won’t be able to miss this recent ceramic work at Viennese gallery Croy Nielsen, by artist Soshiro Matsubara. In glazed ceramics and wood, Matsubara’s Engagement, Tolerance and Hospitality is a tongue-in-cheek take on a Venus in Furs scene involving three figures, an irreverent and at the same time trenchant critique of gender roles, sexuality and conformity.
