Sterling Ruby, Specter, 2019

Sundays are for standing out, and we’re taking our cue from this bold sculpture by American artist Sterling Ruby. The temporary, incandescent monolith was constructed in the California desert early last year, drawing visitors from near and far. “Fluorescent orange is traditionally used for safety, as a warning,” the artist’s website explains. “Here that logic is reversed: a ghostly object, set apart from the natural environment, hiding in plain sight.”
