Alfred Gescheidt, A Saul Steinberg-Decorated Bathtub, 1955

It’s Friday, who’s ready to put their feet up? This covetable tub was delightfully decorated by the American cartoonist (and frequent embellisher of baths) Saul Steinberg. Precise information on the origins of this particular vessel is hard to come by, but it is said that Steinberg painted it in the bathroom of his friend’s Paris apartment in 1955, whereafter it was captured, replete with perfectly positioned occupant, by the American photographer Alfred Gescheidt.
