Anja Carr, Lykketoll, 2018

We all know their role in internet culture now, but trolls originated as beings in their own right in Scandinavian folklore—so it’s apt that this 165cm, pink-haired troll sculpture was made by a Norwegian artist, Anja Carr, and can be seen this month (until September 1) at QB gallery, Oslo, as part of Carr’s solo exhibition Translations. Carr’s Lykketoll (meaning lucky tariff; wordplay in Norwegian on good luck troll) is exactly the same height as the artist, and wears an adult diaper acquired from a nursing home. Lucky charm or grotesque nuisance? You decide—but you probably wouldn’t want this sculpture standing over your bed at night.
