Derek Jarman, Prospect Cottage, 1986-1994

What’s your favourite artist home to visit? High on our list is Prospect Cottage, the former abode of Derek Jarman, located in Dungeness and purchased by the artist and filmmaker in 1986. The house—a former fishing hut that Jarman famously painted black with bright yellow windows and doors—and its garden, which he so carefully cultivated, were a source of great inspiration for the artist in the final years of his life. Last year, the cottage was saved from sale to a private owner by a vast crowdfunding campaign, and its interior will soon be open to the public for the very first time.
