Marina Denisova, The Bathroom at Casa Mollino, 2019

Taken at the perfectly preserved former bolthole of the late Italian architect, designer and photographer Carlo Mollino, this image was captured by photographer Marina Denisova for Cereal magazine in 2019. The apartment, meanwhile, was designed by Mollino himself from 1960 to 1968, and is nestled on the first floor of the 1888 Villa Avondo in the centre of Turin. Now a museum that’s well worth a visit, Casa Mollino “was not intended as Mollino’s home”, the apartment’s website explains, but instead “represents a private project imagined with a strong symbolism”. A perfect inner-city escape, its interiors are indeed shrouded in a shrine-like mystery, yet prove as inviting as they are captivating.
