William Wegman, Casual, 2002

It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day! And what could be more fitting than the work of William Wegman, an artist who is acclaimed for collaborating with his Weimaraners, notably Man Ray, Fay Ray and their descendants. Spanning the surreal, the comical and the down-right endearing, Wegman’s oeuvre is as popular on the gallery wall as it is kid’s TV shows, for who could forget those amazing segments of his dogs, mysteriously blessed with human hands, attempting to cook in the Sesame Street kitchen? The mixture of canine apathy and absurd people clothing has mesmerized us since the 1980s, and now is the chance to see a weird array of doggy dress up in the touring exhibition William Wegman: Being Human. Catch it at the Museo d’arte della Svizzera Italiana until 24 February, and the Fotomuseum den Haag, from 5 September 2020 to 3 January 2021.
