Raoul Peck, I Am Not Your Negro, 2016

It’s Theaster Gates season at Fondazione Prada—the artist’s show True Value closes at the Milan institution just as his The Black Image Corporation opens at the Osservatorio venue in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The project delves into the Johnson Publishing Company archives which holds over four million images which have “contributed to shape the aesthetic and cultural languages of the contemporary African American identity”. There are two days of film screenings this week, chosen by Gates, including I Am Not Your Negro, Raoul Peck’s documentary based on Remember This House, an unfinished manuscript by the esteemed novelist and social critic James Baldwin.
