Syn Architects, Hometown Moon, 2021

A roof with a view. This mesmerising semicircular structure sits atop a wedding chapel, designed by Syn Architects and located north of Tai’an City in China. Completed in 2021, the building’s roof is topped by a thin layer of water that reflects the half-dome form of its upper window, creating the impression of a full circle. Designed to emulate what the practice terms “a moon that never sets”, the illusory effect represents the act of marriage and the joining of two entities for life.
