Elephant has just launched its first sustainably packaged paints, beginning with a range of acrylics in recyclable aluminium tubes, employing FSC-certified and recyclable materials in the packaging and removing all plastic mouldings and wrapping. We’re even running a free return scheme that will allow for the responsible disposal of the used paint tubes.
“We are developing canvases made from recycled sea plastics, CFC-certified pencil sets, and sketchpads made from recycled materials”
But that’s just the start of Elephant’s sustainable ambitions. We believe that art and the environment can work hand in hand going forward and have plans to add many more products to the range.
We are currently working on developing canvases made from recycled sea plastics, CFC-certified pencil sets, and sketchpads made from recycled materials. We hope to be able to eliminate plastic lids from our products (although these can be returned to us for responsible disposal) and any biocides used in our paint.
“Our ambitions include making the Elephant range vegan and certified cruelty-free, while also reducing the product miles involved in new items”
Our ambitions include making the Elephant range fully vegan and certified cruelty-free, while also further reducing the product miles involved in new items (the current paints were manufactured and filled in France before being shipped to the UK).
We also intend to replace the acrylic used in the paint’s manufacture. Acrylic was used as it’s easy to use, as well incredibly versatile and vibrant. However we accept that acrylic paint is, in its simplest form, a liquid plastic. We hope that the fact that our customers will be using our paints to create meaningful and beautiful pieces that last a lifetime mitigates this, but we are nonetheless working on a long-term solution.
